Designed to help you understand technical key terms

The national curriculum is a set of subjects and standards used by primary and secondary schools so children learn the same things. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subject.

Key stages

The national curriculum is organised into blocks of years called ‘key stages’ (KS). At the end of each key stage, the teacher will formally assess your child’s performance.

KS2 covers –  ages 7-11 (Years 3-6).

KS3 covers – ages 11-14  (Years 7, 8 and 9) the first three years of secondary school.

KS4 covers – ages 14-16 ( Years 10-11) the two years that children are studying for their GCSE’s.
